When the organisers first initiated a bike race in 1987 to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of their cycling club, little did they imagine the enormous scale this bike riding marathon in the Dolomites would one day attain. In its first year, the Maratona was a competition for amateurs, with 165 male riders and a single female cyclist participating. Today, the race is truly legendary and has just under 9,000 fiercely sought-after starting places. These are usually all allocated many months before the event takes place. Cycling enthusiasts from 69 countries, including several Olympians and celebrities, don’t want to miss this extreme road race in the Dolomites. Their goal is to conquer 138 kilometres and 4,230 vertical metres, regardless of the weather. Join in on the action and feel the passion!
